A healthy role model at any weight

Perth dietitian & nutritionist, non-diet nutrition, healthy eating

Before I went diet-free, when I was still cycling through losing weight then gaining it back, I used to think that I needed to reach a certain weight so that I could be a healthy role model for my future kids. Now that I actually am a mum, I know that there are so many ways that I can be a healthy role model for my little ones. In fact, trying to lose weight might model some unhealthy behaviours to them, which is the opposite of what I want!

Here are some of the ways that I model health to my kiddos:
πŸ’Š I take my antidepressant (for postnatal depression) every morning.
πŸ‰ I eat a variety of nutritious foods each day.
🍩 I also eat foods for enjoyment, without commenting about them being unhealthy and without β€œmaking up” for them later.
πŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ I take the opportunity to walk places with them when I’m able to e.g. we walk to the park or the library.
😌 I take time for myself to recharge.
πŸ’— I don’t hide my emotions, and I let them see me reaching out for support when I need to.
πŸ‘©πŸ½β€βš•οΈI go the doctor when I’m sick and need medical advice.

We all want our kids to be healthy, and we can do that by showing them that bodies of all different shapes and sizes can engage in behaviours which promote physical and mental health.

If you want the knowledge, tools and support to improve your relationship with food and your body, I’d love to work with you.
